Installing crown molding

Learn how to install.

Installation tools needed
  • Framing Square
  • Chalk line
  • Compound Mitre Saw
  • Hand Coping Saw
  • Power Nailer
  • Stud Finder
Know which way is up!

An ogee is the part of the crown molding which has a combined concave and convex curve. This curve is placed at the top or closest to the celing of your room!

Layout your lines
The next step is to layout your chalk line which will guide you in the crown molding installation. Cut a small piece of your crown about 4 inches wide. You'll then hold this piece in place along the celing in one corner of the room. Take a pencil and mark a point at the bottom of the molding. Do the same thing in another corner of the room on the same wall. Snap a chalk line with these two points! This line will be where the bottom of your crown will line up.

All of the crown molding you see on our website will display the dimension your molding will cover from the intersection of your wall and ceiling.

Using your stud finder mark where the studs are on the wall. You will want to nail your crown molding to the studs! The cost of installing your crown should ideally be approximately $6 per foot.
